Iowa’s largest private lake

Lake Panorama was created in the late 1960s by damming the Middle Raccoon River, forming a sprawling reservoir that became the centerpiece of a planned recreation community. Managed by the Lake Panorama Association, it’s lined with homes, a marina, beaches and an acclaimed golf course (Lake Panorama National), making it a year-round resort-style destination – private, but a major recreational lake in west-central Iowa.

Fishing Lake Panorama

The lake is a solid fishery for walleye, largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, channel catfish and bluegill. An Iowa fishing license is required. Because the lake is private, access for fishing and boating is generally tied to membership, property ownership or guest privileges – check current public-access and guest rules before planning a trip.

Recreation and the community

Beyond fishing, Lake Panorama offers boating, water-skiing, sailing and swimming, along with golf, dining and lakeside living. The big open water and many coves suit powerboating and paddling alike, and the community hosts events through the season. It’s one of Iowa’s premier lake-living destinations.
